Beach Safety
Accidents happen quickly and usually due to a lack of safety knowledge. These are some useful tips:
- Learn to swim
- Never swim alone
- Swim parallel to shore if you wish to swim long distances
- Supervise children closely, even if lifeguards are present
- Do not rely on flotation devices, you may lose them in the water
- If caught in a rip current, swim sideways until free, do not swim against the current's pull
- Alcohol and swimming do not mix (not even beer)
- Protect your head, neck, and spine - do not dive into unfamiliar waters
- If you are in trouble, call or wave for help
- Follow regulations and directions from locals or lifeguards
- No glass containers at the beach - broken glass and bare feet do not mix
- No fires except in designated areas and only if truly safe
- Report any dangers you notice, also put up a warning sign etc to warn others

Even calm waters may turn dangerous
